Wise County Courthouse
Cry Out America – Wise County Style
A Remembrance of 9/11
By Connie Swain
Sunday was beautiful, just as it was 10 years ago, but the spirit was a little different. As motorcycles from the Unchained Biker Church lined the west side of the Wise County Courthouse, American flags waved to commemorate a day that changed us forever. Then, just as a hush settled over the crowd, the North Texas Honor Guard presented the colors on the courthouse steps.
Over 150 people gathered Sunday to remember that horrific day and participate in Cry Out America, a national prayer effort created to call America back to the place of unity we experienced after the 9/11 attacks. The theme is ‘Uniting Together for America’s Future’ based on Joel 1:14 which states “Consecrate a fast, Proclaim a solemn assembly; Gather the elders andall the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”
The Wise Regional Prayer Network, led by Connie Swain, hosted the Wise County event on the courthouse steps, joining thousands across America in calling for God to move on our region, our state and our nation.
Leading up to Sunday’s events, several area churches hosted evening prayer rallies around the county, all preparing for Sunday’s time at the courthouse. The day included the National Anthem sung by Evangelist Billy Baker, the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Tea Party Chair Skip Matthews, along with the presentation of the colors, taps and a gun salute to honor those lost.
Apostle Quint Burks of New Vision Ministries, in Alvord coordinated the rallies, as well Sunday’s service. The service included music, prayer, a challenge from Apostle Burks, as well as a Prayer for the state led by Wise Republican Communication Chair, D.A. Sharpe. Curt Cleaver, candidate for US Senate, read scripture and prayed for the region, and Evangelist Dan Justice declared a blessing over Texas and our region in both Hebrew and English. The service concluded with prayer after Kim Saling of Amen X-Press Ministries led everyone in “America the Beautiful.”
The day began somber as we remembered the price paid by so many, but ended with encouragement from men and women of God reminding us that we are a Christian Nation with a strong resolve for freedom. Apostle Burks said he was “Very happy with the turnout and thankful to everyone who worked so hard to make the entire week a success.”

Prayer for State of Texas
9/11/2011
D.A. Sharpe
Father, we petition you for our home state of Texas.
In your word, you said through the Prophet Isaiah (22:21), “Commit thy government into his hand and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.” Based on that Word, we commit our Texas State Government into your hand, that you would be our Father, and that this land would be blessed because of our commitment to you.
King David regularly inquired of you about decisions incumbent upon him to make as Israel’s governing ruler, the apple of your eye. Our prayer is that Texas elected and appointed officials would be citizens who inquire regularly of you for direction and decision.
Our prayer is that Texas governmental office holders would be people whose ears are attuned to you. If there are those who do not so hear from, we pray that their ears would be opened so they can know the truth and it will make them and us free, as it is written in the gospel of John 8:36.
And for those who decline such hearing, in your good providence, let them be removed and let their offices be filled with citizens who do hear from you. We see this principle in Acts 13 when we are reminded that you removed King Saul from office and replaced him with King David, a man after your own heart.
Father, we seek your protection of us and of our State of Texas. Your word said in Psalm 91 that no evil would befall us, nor would any plague come near us. Your Word said that the angels would bear us up, let our foot be dashed against a stone, and that as we called upon you, you would deliver us and honor us, and that you would satisfy us with long life. And we ask for wide-spread, slow, soaking, gentle rain for Texas!
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we present these petitions before you, as they are written, Amen.
